紗紗 xiaxiahijab Japan
Thank you for visiting our site.
My name is Kaori Kobayashi.
I run a Japanese kimono hijab brand
called ”紗紗 xiaxiahijab Japan”.
I am not a Muslim, but during a trip to Malaysia, I had the opportunity to experience Muslim culture.
This experience introduced me to its depth, nobility, and above all, its beauty, which captivated my heart.
Just as truly beautiful things know no borders,
I believe that even across different countries and cultures, as long as there is a willingness to acknowledge each other and come together, we can understand each other and create smiles.
Based on my own experiences, I will continue to create kimono hijabs with the intention of expressing my respect for Muslim culture and the desire to bring smiles across cultures to people around the world.
Who are we?
We are apparel brand , “紗紗 xiaxia hijab Japan” , we revive kimono (Antique Kimono) over 100 years ago as Hijab.
Although “Antique Kimono” is a traditional Japanese clothing more than 100 years ago, it is a very good condition.
We have transformed kimonos, chosen for their traditional and beautiful Japanese designs that are hard to come across in modern kimonos, into hijabs.
Since “Antique Kimono “ is very popular now, some of which is worth several million yen.
People, a long time ago in Japan, used to wear kimonos every day.
However, now people wear kimonos only for formal occasions such as weddings, graduations or traditional cultural activities like tea ceremonies and flower arrangements.
As an exception, in summer season a lot of people still wear “Yukata” which is a light summer kimono for summer festivals.
We are cleaning “Antique Kimono” three times.
And then we unsew “Antique Kimono”s and make it hijab.
All of these processes are handmade.
I would like to get Muslim in all over the world interested in the Japanese culture and tradition through our “Kimono Hijab”.
I hope we could get a wonderful relationship between you and Japan through Kimono Hijab.
Our history
In January 2017, when I traveled to Malaysia, I was enchanted by the beauty of the hijab.
Being a Buddhist and it being my first visit to a country with a significant Muslim population, the experience was eye-opening.
Upon returning from this impactful trip, I spent about a year fervently making hijabs by trial and error, without any knowledge of how to create them.
During this time, I also witnessed the strong prejudice against Muslims in Japan.
Currently, both in Japan and around the world, Islam is often misunderstood as a religion to be feared.
I myself faced various opinions, such as concerns about the danger of making hijabs, questioning the safety of mosques, or suggesting it might be better not to involve oneself with Islam if not a follower.
Each time I encountered such opinions, I realized the fear of the unknown and the significant influence of the media.
However, this made me think:
Isn’t there something I, as a non-Muslim living in Japan, can do?
This led me to the idea of making hijabs using my beloved kimonos.
By transforming kimonos into hijabs, I hoped to create an opportunity for people in Japan to learn about Islam and to share Japanese traditional culture with Muslims worldwide.
Negative impressions are often derived from fear and misunderstanding, but positive impressions can surely come from beauty, fun, and elegance.
Therefore, I wanted to create beautiful items to help change the negative perceptions of Islam often portrayed in the media.
There were times I questioned whether it was acceptable for me, a non-Muslim, to make hijabs.
However, I am incredibly grateful for the warm support and advice I’ve received from many Muslims throughout this journey, which has allowed me to continue.
Religion, culture, skin color, gender… we are all different, and that diversity is wonderful.
Imagine how beautiful the world would be if everyone could appreciate this diversity.
With this hope in my heart, I will continue to carefully craft each “kimono×hijab.”
Our products
Our main product, the Kimono×Hijab, is entirely handcrafted from antique fabrics. The number of hijabs that can be produced from a single kimono is limited, and once they are sold out, it is generally difficult to offer the same design again.
In Japan, there is a phrase used in the tea ceremony, “一期一会:Ichigo Ichie,” which means “once in a lifetime encounter.” This expression signifies the importance of cherishing each moment and meeting with others, conveying a spirit of respect and appreciation. We at 紗紗 xiaxiahijab Japan, along with our Kimono×Hijab, are grateful to everyone who has taken the time to get to know our brand and products. We hope that our items can bring a smile to your face, even if just a little.

Our kimono hijabs are available for purchase at three stores located within Tokyo and through our online shop.If you purchase from our online shop, we can also ship to overseas locations, excluding certain areas.
